Pinterest Is Rewriting Eight Policy Documents. Continued Use Is Agreement.

Pinterest emailed advertisers on 4 September that rewritten Advertising Guidelines take effect on 12 November 2026. The notice covers eight documents, not one. Continued use of the platform after that date counts as agreement.

The bundle is the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, Advertising Guidelines, Merchant Guidelines, the Advertising Services Agreement, the Ad Data Terms incorporated within it, and the GenAI Acceptable Use Guidelines. All carry the same effective date. The Advertising Guidelines gain a standalone section on scams and deceptive commerce with five prohibitions that have no counterpart in the current text, binary options are added to prohibited financial products, unacceptable business practices shrink from thirteen entries to six, and one rule loosens: the landing page pop-up ban narrows to non-dismissible pop-ups and automatic downloads.

The change most likely to catch a small advertiser is none of those. Protected-group targeting restrictions widen from an enumerated list to a category.

Our math: an enumerated list can be checked against in an afternoon. A category cannot. It has to be interpreted, and the interpreting is done by whoever reviews the ad, not by the person who wrote it. That converts a compliance task with a finite answer into a judgement call with an unknown one, and the first time most advertisers meet the new boundary will be a disapproval.

Sixty-nine days separated the email from the effective date, and fifty remain. Pinterest is publishing both the current and the replacement policy pages in parallel until 12 November, so the difference between them is readable right now and only right now. After the date the old text goes and the comparison goes with it.

Our read: the mechanism is a default and the cost is that nobody was asked. The paperwork governing an account opened last year is not the paperwork that will govern it in November, and no action is required from the advertiser for the change to take effect. Read the replacement guidelines against the current ones this month. Policy exposure is a Stage 1 problem, set out in Stage 1 of the audit.

Do I need to accept the new Pinterest terms? No, and that is the point. Agreement follows from continued use after 12 November. The only active step available is reading the replacement text before the current version is withdrawn.
